Our Courses

On this one day experience day you will make a poker for a fire and a hook to hang it from. This is the perfect gift for someone wanting to have their first try at blacksmithing or that man in your life that loves his fire! The end of the poker can be left pointed for an open fire or bent over for better use on a log stove. This course covers forging, a range of free hand forming on the anvil, former/jig use in the vice and the use of a variety of hand tools

You will also use our 30 ton hydraulic press for forming the leaves and be present for a power hammer demonstration to show how one of the pre-made pieces is forged. This is a one day course, for two people, where together you will make one forged rose tea light holder. Like forging a relationship this will take attention, care and patience. Our Junior course is intended for those aged from years 11-14 courses and will be a private session attended by the child, one parent and Michael hart. These are offered for for clients wanting to provide a unique experience for their child as part of extra curricular activities if at school or home schooled.

Michael has a background in teaching from years as a lecturer and Michael has a passion for teaching students in a way that informs and inspires them to progress at their own pace. Michaels approach is informative and relaxed to ensure students feel as comfortable as possible and he is happy to cater for those with a variety of disabilities and conditions.

On this course we can make any of the set items offered on our other courses or we can make an item specific to yourself. Parents bringing their child will be included in the day and participate alongside their child for a shared experience. The reason these are private sessions is purely for safety reasons. If your child is aged 15-17 they can attend any of the other larger classes so long as they are accompanied by a participating adult.

This caters for:

  • Parents and children when the child is 11-14
  • Parents who’s child is 15-17 but private tuition is preferred
  • Parents who choose to homeschool their children and want to provide their
    child with a unique experience
  • This is a one day course

Our one day private sessions are offered for clients wanting one-on-one tuition for themselves for more involved and in-depth tuition in blacksmithing. This the ideal course for a hobbyist blacksmith wanting professional guidance to developed their skill set and see how industry tools and approaches change the way steel is worked and how items are designed and made.

On this course we can make any of the set items offered on our other courses or we can make an item specific to yourself. We also have the option to to develop techniques such a, riveting, traditional frame assembly, fire welding and mig welding. FAQs

No, our clients come from a variety of professions, some work with their hands, some have never picked up a tool before and some are in between. This can make some people nervous to attend the course. But this is exactly why Michael is attentive to his customers and aims to work out the guidance each client needs.

12 months from purchase. Once expired a new voucher needs to be purchased.
Cancelation: We require a minimum of 14 days notice if you need to reschedule to allow fair time to fill your slot. Cancellation within this 14 day period will result in vouchers expiry.

We can’t cater for anyone under 11.

Children11-14 will require a private session that is attended by the child, the parent and Michael. No other clients will be present. This is strictly for safety reasons. The parent will be able to participate in the course and be given PPE and their own work station.

Children 15-17 can attend a normal class however must be accompanied by an adult. This does require the purchase of an additional voucher to cater for the adult. As the parent you will have the choice to focus 100% on your child throughout the day for safety reasons or you can work on a work station next to them and balance participating in the day and supervising your child.   You will both be provided with PPE, a lengthy safety talk on the risk of burns and my attention throughout the day. My attention throughout the day will be divided between yourselves and the other participants. Your presence is required to add an additional level of safety and supervision for your child and aid them in completing tasks along with the group. Alternatively you are welcome to book a private one-on-one session

Please come in 100% cotton clothes, trousers that fit over your boots, steel toed boots or walking boots. no trainers, no shorts. Strictly no plastic clothing. shirt sleeves can be long or short.
